Neighborhood

Neighborhood is a series of ten collages created to depict communities as they are affected by changes throughout time. I used the same image of a house, varying the color and appearance in each collage, to create the homes in the community. The translucent layers are created by the overlapping of the photographs that have been dipped and painted with encaustic wax. Then each layer is hand stitched using perle cotton thread. Next, buttons, silk ribbons, and found materials are added. This series is part of a larger body of work for the collaboration project Fate with artist Laurel DeFreece which is being exhibited in different regional venues in 2021 and 2022.
